حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ فِيمَا الرَّمَلَانُ الْآنَ وَالْكَشْفُ عَنْ الْمَنَاكِبِ وَقَدْ أَطَّأَ اللَّهُ الْإِسْلَامَ وَنَفَى الْكُفْرَ وَأَهْلَهُ وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ لَا نَدَعُ شَيْئًا كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
‘Abd al-Malik ibn ‘Amr narrated to us; Hisham ibn Sa‘d narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, who said: I heard ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, say: ‘Why do we perform ramal now and uncover our shoulders, when Allah has established Islam firmly and driven away disbelief and its people? Even so, we will not abandon anything we used to do during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.’
