Musnad Ahmad 347, 348

Hushaym and Yazid narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Sa‘id, from ‘Amr ibn Shu‘ayb, who said: ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Were it not that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, ‘A killer receives nothing,’ I would have made you an heir.” He then summoned the maternal uncle of the slain man and gave him the camels. Ya‘qub narrated to us; my father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Najih and ‘Amr ibn Shu‘ayb both narrated to me, from Mujahid ibn Jabr, who mentioned the report. He said: ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, took from the camels thirty hiqqahs, thirty jadha‘ahs, and forty thaniyyahs up through those in their final year before full maturity; all were pregnant. Then he summoned the slain man’s brother and gave them to him, to the exclusion of his father. He said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: ‘A killer receives nothing.’”’
