Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنَّ مِنْ آخِرِ مَا أُنْزِلَ آيَةُ الرِّبَا وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُوُفِّيَ وَلَمْ يُفَسِّرْهَا فَدَعُوا الرِّبَا وَالرِّيبَةَ.
Translation
Isma‘il narrated to us, from Ibn Abi ‘Arubah, from Qatadah, from Ibn al-Musayyab, that ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: ‘Among the last matters revealed was the verse on usury. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, died without explaining it. So leave usury and doubtful matters.’
