Musnad Ahmad 353
Muhammad ibn Ja‘far and Hajjaj narrated to us; they said: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Simak ibn Harb, who said: I heard al-Nu‘man—meaning Ibn Bashir—delivering a sermon. He mentioned the worldly goods people had acquired. ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said, ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, spending the whole day doubled over, unable to find even the poorest-quality dates to fill his stomach.’
