Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us; Sa‘id and ‘Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us, from Sa‘id, from Qatadah, from Abu al-‘Aliyah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said: ‘Reliable men testified before me, among them ‘Umar—and the most reliable of them in my view was ‘Umar—that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade prayer after the dawn prayer until the sun rises, and after the afternoon prayer until the sun sets.’
