Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا رَبَاحُ بْنُ أَبِي مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ قَالَ لِي عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ.
Translation
Waki‘ narrated to us; Rabbah ibn Abi Ma‘ruf narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, who heard Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, say: ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said to me: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: “The deceased is indeed punished because of his family’s weeping over him.”’
