Chapter 4

Transmission and legacy

He taught in Samarkand and was among the teachers of Muslim and At-Tirmidhī. His collection connects knowledge, transmission and practice. This is ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān ad-Dārimī; the polemical works of ʿUthmān ibn Saʿīd ad-Dārimī belong to a different author.

Chapter 5

A guide to reading

Read a chapter heading alongside its reports. Comparing wording and chains helps explain why an author preserves several versions. Inclusion in a collection does not replace checking a report’s assessment and a commentary; selection aims differ between works.
