Chapter 2

Understanding the work

Jāmiʿ al-ʿulūm wa-l-ḥikam comments on fifty hadiths, extending An-Nawawī’s collection. Sharḥ ʿilal at-Tirmidhī addresses hadith criticism; Laṭāʾif al-maʿārif discusses occasions in the religious year.

Chapter 3

Method and contribution

He connects hadith analysis with conduct. In Jāmiʿ al-ʿulūm wa-l-ḥikam, explanations expand into intentions, actions and early generations’ statements. His commentary on At-Tirmidhī’s ʿIlal belongs to a different register: technical comparison of transmission.

Chapter 4

Transmission and legacy

He expands An-Nawawī’s Forty to comment on fifty hadiths. This explains the connection without conflating the books. His Hanbali biographies and writings on the religious year also preserve a school’s memory and teach practices.

Chapter 5

A guide to reading

Read a chapter heading alongside its reports. Comparing wording and chains helps explain why an author preserves several versions. Inclusion in a collection does not replace checking a report’s assessment and a commentary; selection aims differ between works.
