‘Abd al-‘Aziz bin ‘Abdullah narrated to us: Ibrahim bin Sa‘d narrated to us, from Salih bin Kaisan, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salama, from Abu Huraira, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out after the prayer had been commenced and the rows straightened. When he stood in his prayer place, just as we expected him to begin with the opening takbir, he turned away and said, ‘Stay where you are.’ We remained in position until he came back to us with water dripping from his head after bathing.
