Call to Prayers (Adhaan)

Sahih al-Bukhari 645

Hadith Text

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The prayer in congregation is twenty seven times superior to the prayer offered by person alone."

Scholarly Commentary

This noble hadith establishes the immense virtue of performing salah in congregation (jama'ah) over praying individually. The number twenty-seven signifies multiplication of reward, not merely arithmetic calculation, indicating the tremendous spiritual excellence of congregational prayer.

The wisdom behind this superiority includes: unity among Muslims, public manifestation of Islam, learning from imams, mutual acquaintance, assisting one another in righteousness, and the collective remembrance of Allah that elevates the spiritual atmosphere.

Scholars note that this reward applies to those who pray in mosques with proper intention and devotion. The congregational prayer embodies the Islamic principle of community and brotherhood, transforming individual worship into collective ibadah that strengthens the ummah's spiritual foundations.
