Sahih al-Bukhari 72
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ قَالَ لِي ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ صَحِبْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلاَّ حَدِيثًا وَاحِدًا، قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأُتِيَ بِجُمَّارٍ فَقَالَ " إِنَّ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ شَجَرَةً مَثَلُهَا كَمَثَلِ الْمُسْلِمِ ". فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ، فَإِذَا أَنَا أَصْغَرُ الْقَوْمِ فَسَكَتُّ، قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم " هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ ".
'Ali narrated to us: Sufyan narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Najih told me, from Mujahid, who said: I accompanied Ibn 'Umar to Medina, and I did not hear him narrate from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) except one hadith. He said: We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) when the heart of a palm was brought to him. He said: ‘Among the trees there is a tree whose likeness is that of a Muslim.’ I wanted to say, ‘It is the date palm,’ but I was the youngest of the people, so I remained silent. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘It is the date palm.’
