حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ أَمَّا الَّذِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " لَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا مِنْ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ خَلِيلاً لاَتَّخَذْتُهُ، وَلَكِنْ خُلَّةُ الإِسْلاَمِ أَفْضَلُ " . أَوْ قَالَ " خَيْرٌ ". فَإِنَّهُ أَنْزَلَهُ أَبًا. أَوْ قَالَ قَضَاهُ أَبًا.
Abu Mamr narrated to us; Abd al-Warith narrated to us; Ayyub narrated to us, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, who said: As for the one about whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, If I were to take an intimate friend from this community, I would take him—but the bond of Islam is better; or he said, superior—he assigned him the status of a father; or he said, he decreed him to be a father. The final wording is unclear in the source.
