Sahih al-Bukhari 6783
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " لَعَنَ اللَّهُ السَّارِقَ، يَسْرِقُ الْبَيْضَةَ فَتُقْطَعُ يَدُهُ، وَيَسْرِقُ الْحَبْلَ فَتُقْطَعُ يَدُهُ " . قَالَ الأَعْمَشُ كَانُوا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُ بَيْضُ الْحَدِيدِ، وَالْحَبْلُ كَانُوا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُ مِنْهَا مَا يَسْوَى دَرَاهِمَ.
Umar ibn Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us; my father narrated to me; al-Amash narrated to us, saying: I heard Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: May Allah curse the thief: he steals an egg and his hand is cut off, and he steals a rope and his hand is cut off. Al-Amash said: They understood the egg to mean an iron helmet, and they understood the rope to be one worth several dirhams.
