Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شُعْبَةَ، سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لِأُبَيٍّ " إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ {لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا} ". قَالَ وَسَمَّانِي قَالَ " نَعَمْ " فَبَكَى.
Translation
Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to me: Ghundar narrated to us. He said: I heard Shuʿba say: I heard Qatada narrate from Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him: The Prophet said to Ubayy, “Allah has commanded me to recite to you, ‘Those who disbelieved did not…’” He asked, “And He named me?” He said, “Yes.” So Ubayy wept.
