حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ ‏‏{‏وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الرُّؤْيَا الَّتِي أَرَيْنَاكَ إِلاَّ فِتْنَةً لِلنَّاسِ‏}‏ قَالَ هِيَ رُؤْيَا عَيْنٍ أُرِيَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ ‏‏{‏وَالشَّجَرَةَ الْمَلْعُونَةَ‏}‏ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ‏.‏

Ali ibn Abdullah related to us; Sufyan related to us, from Amr, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), concerning the words, “We made the vision We showed you only a trial for people” (Qur’an 17:60). He said: “It was an actual vision that the Messenger of Allah was shown on the night he was taken on the Night Journey.” Concerning “the accursed tree,” he said: “It is the tree of Zaqqum.”
