Translation

Ali ibn Abdullah related to us; Ya‘qub ibn Ibrahim ibn Sa‘d related to us; my father related to us, from Salih, from Ibn Shihab, who said: Ali ibn Husayn informed me that Husayn ibn Ali had informed him, from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah came to him and Fatima at night and said, “Will you two not pray?”

“Guessing at the unseen” means “what has not been made clear.” “Regret” means regret. “Its enclosure” is like an awning or a chamber surrounding tents. “He argues with him” derives from “to converse.” “But He is Allah, my Lord” means “But I say: He is Allah, my Lord”; the alif is omitted and one nūn is assimilated into the other. “Slippery” means a place where no foot can stay firm. “There, the guardianship” is the verbal noun of “to be a guardian.” “Outcome” and its related forms are equivalent; it means the final end. “Face to face,” in its different readings, begins a new clause. “To make them slip” means “to remove”; slipping is the root sense of “slippery.”
