Qutayba ibn Saʿid narrated to us: Jarir narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Ibrahim, from ʿAlqama, from ʿAbdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said, “When this verse was revealed—‘Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing’—it weighed heavily on the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace), and they said, ‘Which of us has not mixed his faith with wrongdoing?’ The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, ‘It does not mean that. Have you not heard Luqman’s words to his son: “Indeed, associating others with Allah is a tremendous wrongdoing”?’”
