Ishaq related to us: Yaqub ibn Ibrahim related to us: Ibn Akhi Ibn Shihab related to us, from his uncle, who informed me that Urwa informed him that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), told him: The Messenger of Allah used to test the believing women who migrated to him by this verse, in the words of Allah: 'O Prophet, when believing women come to you pledging allegiance to you...' up to 'All-Forgiving, Most Merciful' (Quran 60:12). Urwa said: Aisha said: Any believing woman who affirmed this condition, the Messenger of Allah would say to her: 'I have accepted your pledge.'—that is, verbally. By Allah, his hand never touched the hand of a woman in pledging allegiance. He pledged allegiance to them only by saying: 'I have accepted your pledge on that basis.' Yunus, Ma'mar, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq also related it from al-Zuhri. Ishaq ibn Rashid related from al-Zuhri, from Urwa and Amra.
