Sahih al-Bukhari 4921
Musa ibn Ismail related to us; Abu Awana related to us, from Abu Bishr, from Said ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out with a group of his Companions, heading toward the market of Ukaz. The devils had been prevented from obtaining news from heaven, and shooting stars had been sent against them. The devils returned to their fellows, who asked, ‘What is wrong with you?’ They said, ‘We have been prevented from obtaining news from heaven, and shooting stars have been sent against us.’ The others said, ‘Nothing has prevented you from obtaining news from heaven except some event that has occurred. So travel to the eastern and western reaches of the earth and see what this event is.’ They set out, traveling east and west to discover what had occurred and prevented them from obtaining news from heaven. Those who headed toward Tihama came to the Messenger of Allah at Nakhlah while he was on his way to the market of Ukaz and was leading his Companions in the dawn prayer. When they heard the Quran, they listened closely and said, ‘This is what has come between you and the news from heaven.’ Thereupon they returned to their people and said, ‘Our people, we have heard a wondrous recitation that guides to right guidance, and we believe in it. We will never associate anyone with our Lord.’ Allah, Mighty and Majestic, then revealed to His Prophet: ‘Say: It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened.’ What was revealed to him was the jinn’s statement.
