Translation

‘Imran bin Maisara narrated to us: Muhammad bin Fudail narrated to us: Husain narrated to us, from ‘Abdullah bin Abi Qatada, from his father, who said: We traveled with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one night. Some people said, ‘Messenger of Allah, if you would let us stop and rest.’ He replied, ‘I fear you may sleep through the prayer.’ Bilal said, ‘I will wake you.’ They lay down, and Bilal leaned his back against his mount, but sleep overcame him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) awoke when the sun’s upper edge had appeared and said, ‘Bilal, where is what you promised?’ He replied, ‘I have never been overcome by sleep like this.’ The Prophet said, ‘Allah takes your souls when He wills and returns them to you when He wills. Bilal, get up and call the people to prayer.’ He performed ablution, and when the sun had risen higher and grown bright, he stood and prayed.
