Sahih al-Bukhari 599

Musaddad narrated to us: Yahya narrated to us: ‘Auf narrated to us: Abu al-Minhal narrated to us: I went with my father to Abu Barza al-Aslami, and my father said to him, ‘Tell us how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray the obligatory prayers.’ He replied, ‘He prayed the midday prayer—which you call the first prayer—when the sun had passed its zenith. He prayed the afternoon prayer, then one of us would return to his family at the far end of Medina while the sun was still bright. I have forgotten what he said about the sunset prayer. He preferred to delay the night prayer. He disliked sleeping before it or talking afterward. He would leave the dawn prayer when one of us could recognize the person sitting beside him, and he would recite between sixty and one hundred verses.’
