Yahya ibn Bukayr narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us, from Khalid, from Sa'id ibn Abi Hilal, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Ata ibn Yasar, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘On the Day of Resurrection, the earth will be like a single loaf, which the All-Powerful will turn over in His hand as one of you turns over his loaf while traveling, as a welcome provision for the people of Paradise.’ A Jewish man came and said, ‘May the Most Merciful bless you, Abu al-Qasim. Shall I tell you the welcome provision for the people of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ The man said, ‘The earth will be one loaf, just as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said.’ The Prophet looked at us and laughed until his molars showed. Then he said, ‘Shall I tell you their relish?’ The man said, ‘Their relish will be balam and nun.’ They asked, ‘What are those?’ He said, ‘An ox and a fish. Seventy thousand will eat from the extra lobe of their livers.’
