Virtues of Prayer at Masjid Makkah and Madinah

Quza‘ah said: I heard Abu Sa‘id (may Allah be pleased with him) say four things. He said: I heard them from the Prophet. Abu Sa‘id had campaigned with the Prophet in twelve campaigns.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet said: ‘Journeys should not be undertaken except to three mosques: the Sacred Mosque, the Mosque of the Messenger, and al-Aqsa Mosque.’

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet said: ‘One prayer in this mosque of mine is better than a thousand prayers in any other mosque, except the Sacred Mosque.’

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to pray Duha only on two occasions: the day he arrived in Makkah, which he would reach in the forenoon, when he would circumambulate the House and then pray two rak‘ahs behind the Station; and the day he came to the mosque of Quba. He used to visit it every Saturday, and when he entered the mosque he disliked leaving without praying there. He reported that the Messenger of Allah used to visit it, riding or walking. Ibn ‘Umar said: I do only as I saw my companions do. I do not prevent anyone from praying at any hour of night or day, except that you should not deliberately seek the time of sunrise or sunset.

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet used to visit the mosque of Quba every Saturday, walking or riding. ‘Abdullah used to do the same.

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet used to come to Quba on foot or riding. Ibn Numayr added: ‘We were told by ‘Ubaydullah, from Nafi‘: He would pray two rak‘ahs there.’

‘Abdullah ibn Zayd al-Mazini (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise.’

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet said: ‘Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit is upon my basin.’

Qaza‘ah, the freedman of Ziyad, said: I heard Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) relate four teachings from the Prophet that I found admirable and pleasing. He said: ‘A woman must not travel for two days except with her husband or a unmarriageable male relative. Fasting is not permitted on two days: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. No prayer is to be offered after two prayers: after Fajr until the sun rises, and after ‘Asr until it sets. Journeys must not be undertaken except to three mosques: the Sacred Mosque, al-Aqsa Mosque, and my mosque.’
