ʿAlī narrated to us: Sufyān narrated to us, saying: Ḥumayd narrated to me that he heard Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Prophet asked ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf, who had married a woman from the Anṣār, ‘How much did you give her as a bridal gift?’ He said, ‘Gold weighing a date stone.’ Ḥumayd said: I heard Anas say: When they arrived in Medina, the Emigrants stayed with the Anṣār. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf stayed with Saʿd ibn al-Rabīʿ, who said, ‘I will share my wealth with you and give up one of my two wives for you.’ He said, ‘May Allah bless your family and your wealth.’ He went to the marketplace, bought and sold, and gained some dried curds and ghee. He then married, and the Prophet said, ‘Hold a wedding feast, even if with one sheep.’
