al-Ḥasan ibn al-Rabīʿ narrated to us: Abū al-Aḥwaṣ narrated to us, from al-Ashʿath, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Suwayd, who said: al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet commanded us to do seven things and forbade us from seven. He commanded us to visit the sick, follow funeral processions, invoke mercy for one who sneezes, fulfill oaths, support the oppressed, spread greetings of peace, and accept invitations. He forbade us from gold rings, silver vessels, silk saddle-cloths, al-qassī (striped silk garments), brocade, and silk. Abū ʿAwānah and al-Shaybānī also related it from al-Ashʿath with ‘spreading greetings of peace’ [in the list].
