Bulugh al-Maram 541
Arabic hadith text
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ - رضى الله عنه - عَنِ اَلنَّبِيِّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -قَالَ: { نَفْسُ اَلْمُؤْمِنِ مُعَلَّقَةٌ بِدَيْنِهِ, حَتَّى يُقْضَى عَنْهُ } رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ, وَاَلتِّرْمِذِيُّ وَحَسَّنَهُ 1 .1 - صحيح. رواه أحمد (2/440 و 475 و 508)، والترمذي (1078) و (1079)، وقال الترمذي: "هذا حديث حسن". قلت: هو صحيح؛ إذ له شواهد عن أربعة من الصحابة ذكرتها "بالأصل".
Translation
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The soul of a believer remains suspended by his debt until it is paid on his behalf.” Ahmad (2/440, 475, 508) and al-Tirmidhi (1078, 1079); al-Tirmidhi graded it hasan. It is authentic through corroborating reports from four Companions, documented in the original work.
