The five compilers also transmit this report. He said: ‘Allah has no need of your sister’s self-affliction. Tell her to cover her head, ride, and fast for three days.’ Both base texts read ‘the five’; a copyist of witness A noted an alternate reading, ‘Ahmad and the four.’ This report is munkar (reprehensible). Ahmad transmitted it (4/143, 145, 149), Abu Dawud (3293), al-Nasa’i (7/20), al-Tirmidhi (1544), and Ibn Majah (2134). Al-Tirmidhi said, ‘This is a hasan report.’ The source author instead grades it weak because its chain includes Ubayd Allah ibn Zahr, who is weak and whose reports are reprehensible; al-Dhahabi lists this report among his reprehensible narrations in al-Mizan.
