Translation

Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Nothing makes water impure, except what overcomes its smell, taste, or color.” Ibn Majah reported it, and Abu Hatim judged it weak.

1 — Weak. Ibn Majah (521) transmitted it through Rashdin ibn Sa'd, who told us: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih, from Rashid ibn Sa'd, from Abu Umamah, with this report. It is weak because Rashdin is weak, and he also had confusion in its chain. 2 — His son quoted him in al-'Ilal (1/44), saying: “My father said: Rashdin ibn Sa'd connects its chain, saying: ‘From Abu Umamah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).’ Rashdin is not strong; the correct version is mursal.”
