Arabic hadith text
وَلِلْبَيْهَقِيِّ: { اَلْمَاءُ طَاهِرٌ إِلَّا إِنْ تَغَيَّرَ رِيحُهُ, أَوْ طَعْمُهُ, أَوْ لَوْنُهُ; بِنَجَاسَةٍ تَحْدُثُ فِيهِ } 1 .1 - ضعيف. رواه البيهقي في "الكبرى" (159-260) من حديث أبي إمامة أيضا، وفي إسناده بقية بن الوليد، وهو مدلس وقد عنعن. وله طريق آخر ولكنه ضعيف أيضا.
Translation
Al-Bayhaqi also reported: “Water is pure unless its smell, taste, or color changes because of an impurity that occurs in it.” 1 — Weak. Al-Bayhaqi reported it in al-Kubra (159–260), also from the hadith of Abu Umamah. Its chain contains Baqiyyah ibn al-Walid, who practiced tadlis and narrated it with an ambiguous ‘from’ formula. It has another chain, but that too is weak.
