Muslim added: Umm Sulaym said, ‘Would this happen [to a woman]?’ He said: ‘Yes. Otherwise, how would the resemblance occur?’ 1 — In the two originals, this was corrupted to ‘Umm Salama’; the wording I have retained is from Sahih Muslim. 2 — Sahih. Muslim (311) reported it in full from Anas ibn Malik: Umm Sulaym asked the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), ‘Does a woman see in her sleep what a man sees?’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘If a woman sees that, she must perform ghusl.’ Umm Sulaym said, ‘I was embarrassed by that.’ She said, ‘Can this happen?’ The Prophet of Allah said, ‘Yes. Otherwise, where would the resemblance come from? The man's fluid is thick and white, and the woman's fluid is thin and yellow. Whichever of the two rises or prevails first is the one from which the resemblance comes.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed

The editor says the name was corrupted to Umm Salama in ‘the two originals’ and that the adopted wording comes from Sahih Muslim, but the two originals and their relationship are not identified in this block.

Can the two originals and the adopted wording be checked against the cited edition before approving the name and textual history?

The English witness contains only Muslim's short additional exchange and omits the full report, source note correcting Umm Salama to Umm Sulaym, and the rest of the hadith's wording.

Should the witness's scope be marked as shorter than this Arabic block?
