Abū Hurayrah reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed us to cover the vessel, tie the waterskin, and turn the vessel upside down.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The report lists three actions: covering a vessel, tying a waterskin, and turning a vessel over. It gives no further detail about the vessels or reason for inverting one.

The final verb means to turn or invert the vessel, but the report does not specify whether it should be emptied or stored upside down.

What practical action is intended by turning the vessel over?
