Umm Salamah reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Whoever drinks from a silver vessel is only gulping the Fire of Hell into his belly.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic uses a vivid verb for the sound or act of gulping; the image of Fire entering the belly is retained directly.

The report expresses the consequence as gulping the Fire of Hell into one’s belly; the wording gives no further explanation of this image.

Should the vivid image be rendered literally as swallowing the Fire of Hell?
