حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَزْرَةُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الإِنَاءِ ثَلاَثًا وَزَعَمَ أَنَسٌ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الإِنَاءِ ثَلاَثًا .

Anas reported that he used to breathe into the vessel three times, and he maintained that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to breathe into the vessel three times.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic literally says ‘breathe into the vessel three times.’ It does not specify here whether the vessel was moved away between breaths.
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الإِنَاءِ ثَلاَثًا وَزَعَمَ أَنَسٌ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يَتَنَفَّسُ فِي الإِنَاءِ ثَلاَثًا .
The report says that Anas and the Prophet ﷺ breathed into the vessel three times, but does not describe whether the vessel was removed from the mouth between breaths.
Does the wording describe three separate breaths while drinking, with the vessel moved away between them?
