Ibn Masʿūd reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Every intoxicant is forbidden.’ Ibn Mājah added, ‘This is a report of the Egyptians.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
Ibn Mājah’s closing remark is kept separate from the prophetic report. ‘A report of the Egyptians’ renders the brief attribution to al-Miṣriyyīn, the Egyptians.
The first sentence is a prophetic statement; the second is the compiler’s note.
قَالَ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ هَذَا حَدِيثُ الْمِصْرِيِّينَ .
Ibn Mājah’s phrase identifies this as a report of the Egyptians but does not explain whether it refers to the transmitters, origin, or circulation of the report.
Does the compiler’s phrase refer to the Egyptian transmitters or to another Egyptian association of the report?
