Performing Hajj on behalf of a living person if he is incapable himself Sunan Ibn Majah 2909
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ أَخِيهِ الْفَضْلِ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ رِدْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ غَدَاةَ النَّحْرِ فَأَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِأَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَرْكَبَ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ " نَعَمْ فَإِنَّهُ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكِ دَيْنٌ قَضَيْتِيهِ "
Translation
It wasnarrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that his brother Fadl was ridingbehindthe Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the morning of sacrifice (i.e.,the10th of Dhul-Hijjah), when a woman from Khath’am cameand said
“OMessenger of Allah, the command of Allah has come forHis slaves toperform Hajj, but my father is an old man and cannotride. May Iperform Hajj on his behalf?” He said: “Yes, becauseif your fatherowed a debt you would pay it off.”
