Sunan Ibn Majah 3029
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ غَدَاةَ الْعَقَبَةِ وَهُوَ عَلَى نَاقَتِهِ " الْقُطْ لِي حَصًى " . فَلَقَطْتُ لَهُ سَبْعَ حَصَيَاتٍ هُنَّ حَصَى الْخَذْفِ فَجَعَلَ يَنْفُضُهُنَّ فِي كَفِّهِ وَيَقُولُ " أَمْثَالَ هَؤُلاَءِ فَارْمُوا " . ثُمَّ قَالَ " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْغُلُوَّ فِي الدِّينِ فَإِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمُ الْغُلُوُّ فِي الدِّينِ " .
ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: Abū Usāmah narrated to us, from ʿAwf, from Ziyād ibn al-Ḥuṣayn, from Abū al-ʿĀliyah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: On the morning of the Jamrat al-ʿAqabah, while the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) was on his she-camel, he said, “Pick up some pebbles for me.” I picked up seven pebbles for him, the kind used in flicking. He shook them in his palm and said, “Throw ones like these.” Then he said, “People, beware of excessiveness in religion, for excessiveness in religion destroyed those who came before you.”
