Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us: Wakīʿ narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah said, ‘Whoever drinks poison and thereby kills himself will go on drinking it in the Fire of Hell, remaining there forever.’

  • قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ ‏ "‏ مَنْ شَرِبَ سُمًّا فَقَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ فَهُوَ يَتَحَسَّاهُ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدًا مُخَلَّدًا فِيهَا أَبَدًا ‏"‏ ‏.

The warning says خالدًا مخلدًا فيها أبدًا, an emphatic phrase of abiding forever; it is translated literally without adding a qualification not present in the Arabic wording.

Should the emphatic wording be rendered literally as ‘remaining there forever’?
