حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ " فِي أَحَدِ جَنَاحَىِ الذُّبَابِ سُمٌّ وَفِي الآخَرِ شِفَاءٌ فَإِذَا وَقَعَ فِي الطَّعَامِ فَامْقُلُوهُ فِيهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُقَدِّمُ السُّمَّ وَيُؤَخِّرُ الشِّفَاءَ " .

Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, from Ibn Abī Dhiʾb, from Saʿīd ibn Khālid, from Abū Salamah: Abū Saʿīd narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘On one of a fly’s wings is poison, and on the other is a cure. If it falls into food, immerse it in it, for it brings the poison forward and delays the cure.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The verb فَامْقُلُوهُ means to dip or immerse it in the food. The report explicitly gives the instruction and its stated rationale; both are translated as transmitted.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ " فِي أَحَدِ جَنَاحَىِ الذُّبَابِ سُمٌّ وَفِي الآخَرِ شِفَاءٌ فَإِذَا وَقَعَ فِي الطَّعَامِ فَامْقُلُوهُ فِيهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُقَدِّمُ السُّمَّ وَيُؤَخِّرُ الشِّفَاءَ " .
فَامْقُلُوهُ is rendered as an instruction to dip/immerse the fly in the food; the following rationale says it brings forward the poison and delays the cure.
Is ‘immerse it in the food’ the intended force of فامقلوه?
