Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh reported: Honey was presented to the Prophet ﷺ, and he distributed a taste to each of us. I took my share, then said, ‘Messenger of Allah, may I have another?’ He said, ‘Yes.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic says he gave each person a luqʿah, literally a lick or small taste; the report does not specify a spoon or other utensil.

Luqʿah is a small lick or taste of honey; the report does not specify its size or how it was served.

Should the portion be rendered literally as a ‘lick’ or more naturally as a small taste?
