Sunan Ibn Majah 3140
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يُقَالُ لَهُ مُجَاشِعٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ فَعَزَّتِ الْغَنَمُ فَأَمَرَ مُنَادِيًا فَنَادَى أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يَقُولُ " إِنَّ الْجَذَعَ يُوفِي مِمَّا تُوفِي مِنْهُ الثَّنِيَّةُ " .
Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us: al-Thawrī informed us, from ʿĀṣim ibn Kulayb, from his father, who said: We were with a man from among the Companions of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him), named Mujāshiʿ of Banū Sulaym. When sheep became scarce, he ordered a caller to announce that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say, “A young sheep suffices for what an older sheep suffices.”
