Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn Bakkār ibn Bilāl al-Dimashqī informed us: Muḥammad ibn Rāshid informed us, from Sulaymān ibn Mūsā, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When a child is claimed after the death of the father to whom he is attributed, and the heirs of that man claim him after his death, it is established that a child born to a slave woman whom the man owned when he had intercourse with her is affiliated with the man who claims him. He receives no share from an inheritance distributed before this, but he receives his share of any inheritance not yet distributed. The child is not affiliated with the man if the man to whom he is attributed denied him. If the child was born to a slave woman the man did not own, or to a free woman with whom he committed adultery, the child is not affiliated with him and does not inherit from him. Even if the man to whom the child is attributed claims him, the child is one of fornication and belongs to the people of his mother, whether she is free or enslaved.” Muḥammad ibn Rāshid said: “This refers to property distributed in the pre-Islamic period, before Islam.”
