Sunan Ibn Majah 1530
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ مَاتَ رَجُلٌ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَعُودُهُ. فَدَفَنُوهُ بِاللَّيْلِ. فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ أَعْلَمُوهُ. فَقَالَ " مَا مَنَعَكُمْ أَنْ تُعْلِمُونِي " . قَالُوا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ وَكَانَتِ الظُّلْمَةُ فَكَرِهْنَا أَنْ نَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَ . فَأَتَى قَبْرَهُ، فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ .

Ali ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Abu Mu‘awiyah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani, from al-Sha‘bi, from Ibn Abbas, who said: ‘A man whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit died, and they buried him at night. When morning came, they informed him. He said, “What prevented you from informing me?” They replied, “It was night and dark, and we did not want to inconvenience you.” He went to the grave and performed the funeral prayer over him.’

The report says the Prophet visited the man, that he was buried at night, and that the funeral prayer was performed at his grave the following morning.
