Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us; Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us. And Muhammad ibn Isma‘il narrated to us; al-Muharibi narrated to us. Both routes go through Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from al-Harith ibn Fudayl, from al-Zuhri, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ka‘b ibn Malik, from his father, who said: ‘When Ka‘b was near death, Umm Bishr bint al-Bara’ ibn Ma‘rur came to him and said, “Abu Abd al-Rahman, if you meet so-and-so, convey my greetings to him.” He said, “May Allah forgive you, Umm Bishr. We have more pressing concerns than that.” She said, “Abu Abd al-Rahman, did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, ‘The souls of the believers are in green birds, feeding among the trees of Paradise’?” He replied, “Yes.” She said, “That is what I mean.”’
