Sunan Ibn Majah 1610
حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ لَمَّا جَاءَ نَعْىُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " اصْنَعُوا لآلِ جَعْفَرٍ طَعَامًا. فَقَدْ أَتَاهُمْ مَا يَشْغَلُهُمْ أَوْ أَمْرٌ يَشْغَلُهُمْ " .

Hisham ibn Ammar and Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us; both said: Sufyan ibn Uyaynah narrated to us, from Jafar ibn Khalid, from his father, from Abdullah ibn Jafar, who said: When news of Jafar’s death arrived, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Prepare food for the family of Jafar, for something has come upon them that occupies them—or a matter that occupies them.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic preserves ‘أَوْ’ (‘or’) between two closely related descriptions of what has come upon the family; the alternative is retained rather than collapsed.
