Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us; Abd al-Rahim ibn Sulayman and Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us. In another route, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us. From Asim al-Ahwal, from Hafsah bint Sirin, from al-Rabab Umm al-Ra’ih bint Sulay‘, from her paternal uncle Salman ibn Amir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘When one of you breaks his fast, let him break it with a date. If he does not find one, let him break it with water, for it is purifying.’
