Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir al-Hizami narrated to us; Umar ibn Uthman ibn Umar ibn Musa ibn Ubayd Allah ibn Ma‘mar narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn Shihab, who informed me that Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to him, from Safiyyah bint Huyayy, the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that she came to visit the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was observing i‘tikaf in the mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan. She spoke with him for a while at night, then stood to return. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and accompanied her on her way back. When she reached the mosque gate near the dwelling of Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), two men from the Ansar passed by them. They greeted the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and continued on. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them, ‘Wait a moment; she is Safiyyah bint Huyayy.’ They said, ‘Glory be to Allah, Messenger of Allah!’ That seemed weighty to them, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Satan flows through a human being like blood, and I feared that he might cast something into your hearts.’
