Sunan Ibn Majah 1770
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، عَنْ أُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَسَافَرَ عَامًا فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ اعْتَكَفَ عِشْرِينَ يَوْمًا .

Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us; Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Hammad ibn Salamah, from Thabit, from Abu Rafi‘, from Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to observe i‘tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan. One year he traveled; then, in the following year, he observed i‘tikaf for twenty days.
