Abdullah ibn Sa‘id narrated to us; Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from Muslim al-Batin, al-Hakam, and Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, Ata, and Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas, who said: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, ‘Messenger of Allah, my sister died owing two consecutive months of fasting.’ He said, ‘What do you think: if your sister owed a debt, would you pay it?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Allah’s right has the greater claim.’
