حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ " إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى طَعَامٍ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ فَلْيَقُلْ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ " .

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us; they said: Sufyan ibn Uyaynah narrated to us, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A‘raj, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: ‘If one of you is invited to a meal while fasting, let him say, “I am fasting.”’
