Fasting is the Zakat of the body Sunan Ibn Majah 1745
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحْرِزُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْعَدَنِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ جُمْهَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " لِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ زَكَاةٌ وَزَكَاةُ الْجَسَدِ الصَّوْمُ " . زَادَ مُحْرِزٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " الصِّيَامُ نِصْفُ الصَّبْرِ "
Translation
It wasnarrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)said
“For everything there is Zakat and the Zakat of the body isfasting.”(A narrator in one of the chains) Muhriz added in his narration: "And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:'Fasting is half of patience.'"
